monday mornings

I cast this vase in a plaster mould I made myself and took it out while the porcelain was still soft. Then I hugged it. My shoulder and arm pressed into the clay, and the high firing pulled the form even further out of shape. The glaze turns a deep oxblood where it pools thick and almost disappears where it’s thin. Somewhere in it I found a face: a little crumpled, very Monday morning, someone who could use a hug.
